The iPads are here & despite their international release being delayed till ‘late May’ the Music Applications for them keep on coming.  The following videos are excellent examples of iPad Music applications that could be used in the classroom or on your lounge at home.

Do you teach piano? Music theory? or want to learn about music?  When (if) you get an iPad check out these applications.

Mini Synth Pro – My school teaches a unit on Electronic Music in Year 11.  If each student had one of these I could create the best, hands on, lesson plans.

Music Notes sheet music – And if you look closely my favourite iPhone app, Guitar Tool Kit, is on the screen!

IK Multimedia are an outstanding music production company.  I own the IK Stomp and Amplitube 3 and they have proven themselves to be the best guitar and amp software on the market with their interface (GUI), support and intuitive design (more on that in a later post).  Check out this video of their Groove Maker on the iPad.

Almost done.  Have a look at Music Studio Suite.  Music Studio Suite comes with 8 high quality virtual instruments. Every music instrument is modeled and fine-tuned to offer a close to real-life playing experience.  Almost like Garageband Instruments?

The four main instrument sections available are:
1) Percussion Bongo, Conga & Djembe,
2) Drum Kit Jazz/rock kit,
3) Keyboard Grand piano & strings &
4) Guitar Acoustic & Electric Guitar

There are even more controllers for MIDI coming out as well, look up MIDI Pad!

I know I come across a little excited, but music is an interactive activity.  Why not make learning music fun & interactive as well?  Lastly, if you want to stay on top of all things iPad check out Dave Martin’s Blog:  iPad Music Education Project. I hope my classes get to undertake some of the musical activities he proposes for the iPad.

  1. You are right Bradley_ny. TabToolkit is there too! This iPad owner must know good apps when he sees them 😉

I cannot wait to get my iPad so that I can use these ‘toolkits’ with my guitar students.

Do you know of any videos showing advanced use of these apps on an iPad?

  2. Thank you for the link this looks fantastic.
As a teacher I am impressed by the annotation ability for theory/analyses on the spot or even presentations by the students. You are onto a great idea here. Is there a feature to print (or email) the score, with the annotations as well?

Keep up the good work and I will review it as soon as I get an iPad 🙂

  3. Hi, thanks so much for these tips! My blogs usually do bring readers and responses. One thing I do is engage with the readers. Answer questions in responses and make clarifications where needed. I think they appreciate that I take the time to talk to them.
