Tommy Emmanuel is a CGP (certified guitar player) who has toured the world, inspired thousands of guitarists and played with greats such as Chet Atkins.

I have been playing pieces of his for a few years now and as I pass them on to my students I am always looking for music books, tab books and sites dedicated to his pieces, techniques and performances.  You can purchase many excellent books from his website as well as CD’s and DVD’s.  I highly recommend his instructional DVD’s. Tommy Emmanuel is also on twitter and has many videos on YouTube.

Regarding free music, I came across this site a few months ago that has many of Tommy Emmanuel’s works tabbed out into downloadable PDFs.

There are many other guitarists who demonstrate exceptional skills, tour and performing their own arrangements etc. I saw Michael Fix while I was still in High School and his rendition of William Tell Overture was fantastic! I bought his CD’s and have worked through many of his arrangements. I would recommend you visit his store and purchase the instructional DVD complete with notation.

As a last thought here is an adaptation of Michael Fix’s arrangement of Waltzing Matilda. I loved the first half of this Australian folk tune but his version had the second half of the tune descend into the bass. I re-wrote it to extend up to the 5th position and sound more accurate to the original composition. Let me know if you like it.
