The Guitar Video Series is back!
I have an exciting collection of videos to post and this one kicks off the new series by adding a Kalimba, or African Thumb Piano.
Trevor Gordon has created a rhythmically exciting, tonally pleasing and all-round exemplary performance in his piece Kalimbatar. The folks over at Candyrat Records have continued to deliver outstanding players and pieces since Andy McKee wowed YouTube with his piece Drifting and not to forget Antoine Dufour’s Four Hand’s Guitar performance. Many HSC Students of mine have requested that work and I now see another future piece to learn with Kalimbatar. Just where do I buy that excellent looking Kalimba?
According to Candyrat Records:
Trevor’s Candyrat Records debut album “Entelechy” explores new possibilities for the guitar through the use of a custom chromatic kalimba (African finger piano) that Trevor designed with help from various builders. The kalimba mounts on the surface of the guitar, allowing the steel tines and steel strings to resonate through the guitar body. The album focuses on solid melodic ideas, interspersed with the harmonies and rhythms of the kalimba, bringing a fresh sound to the acoustic guitar.
There are so many opportunities for structure analysis, looking at how the theme develops and the rhythmic variation – it is a great piece for music students and guitarists alike.
Should you like it so much you want to play it yourself get the TABS here via Candyrat Records.
